John Steinbeck and Jimmy Stewart…A Collaboration that Might Have Been

The following article appearrd the in May 27, 1942, edition of Variety:

According to the article, Steinbeck planned on gathering material about Army Air Corps bomber crews and using that material to write a book and produce film, radio and television materials. Working with him on the planning were Jimmy Stewart, Burgess Meredith and CBS producer, Brewster Morgan.

At least one portion of the project did materialize. Steinbeck’s book, Bombs Away: The Story of a Bomber Team, was published by the Viking Press in 1942.

We have searched for any record of a radio show being prepared and/or broadcast, but to date have not found any evidence of such a program.
